Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

534 Dexter Road. Corinna, ME 04928

We are located on Route 7 between Dexter and Corinna. If you are coming from the Moosehead Region you will see us on your right. If you are coming from Newport/Corinna you will see our building on the left. There is a sign!

When you enter our driveway the kennel is on your left with the OPEN flag. The building on the right is a private residence. We have a ring doorbell on the kennel door.

Do you require reservations, or can I walk in?

Walk-in services for nail trims are welcome, however please call to schedule any other grooming services.

Walk-in nail trims will incur a $3 fee. To avoid this fee, please call to schedule an appointment.

For boarding, pick up and drop off is welcome anytime during business hours. It is always best to reserve your pets stay ahead of time in order to ensure we have vacancy.

Check out is before 12pm-noon on your last day (unless it is Sunday), if checking out in the afternoon you will be charged for that day.

What types of pets do you accommodate?

We accept cats and dogs for both grooming and boarding.

Are there any vaccination requirements? Do you require flea and tick prevention?

All pets receiving services at The Pet Motel are required to be vaccinated for Rabies. Dogs are also required to be vaccinated for Distemper/Parvo (DAP) and Kennel Cough (Bordetella). Cats are also required to be vaccinated for Feline Distemper (FVRCP)

Flea and tick prevention is strongly recommended for all pets. If fleas are found on your pet we will ask that you bring them back once they have been treated. We also strongly recommend having your pet on monthly heartworm/parasite protection from your vet such as Interceptor Plus.

What should I bring for my pet’s stay?

We recommend that you bring your pets regular food, enough for their entire stay. Pets can sometimes be stressed when being boarded and this stress coupled with a drastic diet change can cause serious GI upset for some dogs and cats.

We now offer cots and blankets for our guests! These are available for an additional $1/night. You are welcome to bring your pet's own bedding from home at no additional cost. Cots are subject to availability and size restrictions.

Do you offer tours of your facility?

Yes we do! Please call ahead to schedule a tour. Please understand that in the coming months we will be having a lot of renovations happening to improve your pets stay!

How do I book a service?

We have an easy-to-use online booking system! Visit our services page to book now. You are also welcome to call the kennel during business hours or email us at yourpetsmotel@gmail.com.

Can I bring my pet’s own food, bed, or toys?

Yes, of course! Bringing your pets comforts from home is encouraged.

How often are pets fed and exercised during their stay?

Pets are typically fed twice daily. 7AM for breakfast and 4PM for dinner.

Dogs are allowed 24/7 access to their indoor/outdoor runs. We also offer enrichment toys, kongs, chews, etc.

This spring we plan to install a large fenced in yard behind the kennel to offer improved exercise plans for our canine guests. We can’t wait to offer this improved service! In the meantime if you wish to have a special exercise plan for your pet please let us know, and we can do our best to accommodate your request.

Do you have staff on-site 24/7?

Yes, we do have a caretaker on site in the private residence for overnights. We also have security cameras throughout the facility and on the outdoor runs which are directly connected to the owner's mobile device.

What if my pet requires medication or special care?

We are able to handle medication administration for any pet at no extra cost. Please advise us of any special needs your pet may have when you book your pets stay.

How do you handle emergencies?

If your pet becomes ill in any way you will be contacted immediately. The Pet Motel owner is a licensed veterinary technician and will triage your dog or cats injury/illness to determine if they need immediate attention. If you cannot be reached your pet will be transported to the nearest emergency vet clinic at our discretion.

Can I check in on my pet during their stay?

Yes! We will answer your check-ins by the end of the business day. Or if checking in at night, by the end of the next business day.

What is the checkout process?

Check out before 12PM-noon except for Sundays. If checking out after 12pm-noon you will be charged for that day.

What grooming services do you offer?

We offer basic grooming for cats and dogs. Our complete grooming service includes a brush out, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, blow dry and trim. We are new to grooming and therefore keep our costs very low compared to other more experienced groomers in the area. We can offer an affordable option for owners who want a clean, healthy, low maintenance coat for their dog or cat.

Do you require appointments for grooming?

Yes we do require appointments for grooming. Please call or use our online booking system to schedule.

What products do you use for grooming?

We use Bark2Basics Oatmeal Shampoo and Conditioner for most pets. We also have in house “The Coat Handler” Undercoat Control Deshedding Shampoo and Conditioner for our double-coated friends.

We condition every pet we groom. This is essential for maintaining a healthy coat and skin. Every groom is also treated to a Bark2Basics blueberry scented “Face Furst” facial shampoo. Even our furry friends like to feel pampered!

How long does a grooming session typically take?

A full grooming service can take anywhere from 45-90 minutes depending on the size of the pet and coat type. Grooming clients are usually asked to drop off at 8am and pick up early in the afternoon.

Can I request a specific groomer for my pet?

At this time we only have one person who is providing grooming services.

What if my pet has sensitive skin or allergies?

Our Bark2Basics Oatmeal Shampoo and Conditioner is appropriate for all skin types. If your pet is having a particularly bad flare up we will ask that you seek veterinary care. If you have been prescribed a medicated shampoo by your veterinarian we will be more than happy to use that product on your pet.

Do you offer grooming services for all breeds and sizes?

Yes we do! We have a 50” stainless steel adjustable height bathing tub with stairs. If your pet can fit in the tub we can get them groomed!

What is your cancellation policy for grooming appointments?

If canceling within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment you will be asked to pay a deposit to book another appointment at the discretion of The Pet Motel.

What is your cleaning and sanitation process?

Runs (indoor and outdoor) are deep cleaned twice daily and then spot clean as needed throughout the day. We use Kennel Sol as our sanitation agent.

Do you have a vet on call?

We are not able to keep a veterinarian on call at this facility. However The Pet Motel is owned and operated by a licensed veterinary technician who is able to assess your pet in the event of an emergency.

What happens if my pet gets sick or injured during their stay?

If your pet becomes ill in any way you will be contacted immediately. The Pet Motel owner is a licensed veterinary technician and will triage your dog or cats injury/illness to determine if they need immediate attention. If you cannot be reached your pet will be transported to the nearest emergency vet clinic at our discretion and these expenses will be paid for by the owner.

How do you manage pet behavior and aggression?

It is always best to be honest with us about your pets history. It is important to us that we understand your pets needs while they are in our care so that your pet has a successful stay. We have experience with cats and dogs of all temperaments and behaviors and the ability to adapt to their needs to meet them where they are at. There is no “one size fits all” way to manage a pet's behavior, which is why it will be important to discuss your specific pets needs and how we can best support them.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash or checks only at this time.

Is a deposit required for reservations?

Currently no deposit is required for reservations.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation within 24 hours of stay will require a deposit to make any future reservations.
